diagnostic exams

Asheville Breast Center provides a number of additional diagnostic procedures designed to generate the best results or diagnosis possible. If a problem is found as a result of a screening mammogram, the radiologist will discuss the results directly with the patient and may recommend further diagnostic studies. Diagnostic exams may also be recommended by your regular physician. In any case, all examination results are reported back to your doctor.

What is a Diagnostic Mammogram?

A diagnostic mammogram is different than a regular screening mammogram. It is an imaging examination used to check for breast cancer after a lump or other symptom has been found. It may also be used to further evaluate changes found during a screening mammogram or when a patient has special circumstances such as the presence of breast implants. The procedure may take a little longer than a screening mammogram as the technologist may take additional x-rays, including images of magnified areas. The results are more detailed pictures that allow the radiologist to make a more accurate diagnosis.
