Should I be worried about a lump or cyst in my breast?
Anytime that you feel a new lump in your breast or a change to a breast lump that has been previously evaluated, you should see your health care provider for a clinical breast exam. Your health care provider will determine what further evaluation is needed for this new or changed area.
If you have a breast lump that has previously been confirmed as a cyst, contact your health care provider for a clinical breast exam if this area increases in size or becomes painful.
Does Hormone Replacement Therapy increase my risk of developing breast cancer?
There isn’t an easy answer to this question. Some studies have indicated that some types of hormone replacement therapy may increase the risk of developing breast cancer. If you are considering hormone replacement therapy, discuss the potential benefits versus the potential risks with your health care provider so that you can make the best choice for you.
How does caffeine affect breast health?
Caffeine may contribute to an increase in breast cysts and breast tenderness. If you are caffeine sensitive, consider decreasing or eliminating your caffeine intake prior to a mammogram. If your breasts are less tender, the mammogram will be more comfortable for you, and the radiologist will be able to see the breast tissue better if there are fewer cysts present.
